By Inklight: A Frozen February

By Inklight-Monthly Studio Journal

February 2026

Sketched swan and owl feathers swirl around the studio as February washes over our workspace. Stickers and stamps are stacked haphazardly, squished into place. Missing paintbrushes remain an ongoing mystery, demanding a culprit. Icy winter winds war with the steady hum of art life.

When facing an insurmountable storm of sketched feathers, we’ve found it helps to throw in a few tiny pink ice skates—to attract a horde of gnomes tasked with keeping the breeze at bay.

However February has greeted you—whether with whirling winter winds perfect for cozying up on the couch, or the warm anticipation of a special day—we hope this month brings you safety, creativity, and a bit of softness (feathers included).

✦ Artist Feature: Sang

Turbulent storms have a way of making us pause and consider what we need most: hope, whimsy, resilience. Sang embodies all three, making her a natural choice for us to shine some lanternlight her way.

In her words, her current focus is:

“MUSHROOMS, MUSHROOMS, MUSHROOMS!”

In her artist feature, we dive into the narrative behind the print Whale in the Wind, learn the proper pronunciation and meaning behind her name, and enjoy the positivity that she projects.

“This started with a wish,” she explained.

“I was sitting there thinking: I wish we lived in a world where we could ride a whale in the sky!”

I hope that my artwork makes those who view it feel the joy I feel when I’m creating it—sharing that small moment of happiness.
— Sang

What makes Sang’s work distinct is her ability to evoke strong emotion through imaginative, whimsical scenes that feel both playful and powerful.

Behind the scenes & process

What’s on the table:

One of our artists recently experimented with oil pastels.

World Eating Wyrm

“I can’t say I liked the mess, but blending the colors was fun.”

-Sandy

While the artist (Sandy) wasn’t thrilled with the final result, the process of working in a new medium was refreshingly messy. We are, quite literally, still finding pastel dust.

Behind the scenes:

You can find studio peeks on our TikTok and Instagram. Let us know what you’d like to see more of.

We’re also learning how to navigate social media and beginning the early stages of a YouTube channel. Starting a business before building a following may have been a little ambitious, but we’re committed to learning as we go.

Skip Sketch Relay: 2026

Studio check-in:

  • System Shocks: We were not prepared for the winter storms swirling through this season.

  • Difficult Doozies: Balancing social media learning curves, art deadlines, and community-building has been challenging—but deeply worthwhile.

  • Whimsical Wins: The studio continues moving closer to the vision we’ve been working toward. The progress feels natural, and that feels like a win.

✦ Community Updates

Here’s what’s happening around us:

  • February’s free coloring page is live on our community page, designed by the wonderfully talented Sang. We hope it offers a quiet moment of rest and creativity.

  • January’s Print Club selections will be added to the print shop soon (without the exclusive extras reserved for Print Club members). If you’d like a preview of the artwork, we encourage you to take a look.

We’re working toward sharing more of our cozy studio atmosphere through video. Learning is underway.

✦ Studio Lore

The studio hums atop a floating isle, bright pops of cyan, magenta, and black ink cascading from clay pots on the roof. An ancient tree sways nearby, its broad oak limbs bent under red-gold leaves. A mushroom tower—small fungi cradling mailboxes—smells rich and earthy.

Above the studio doors, a colosseum-like structure bears a single glowing yellow eye that roams the space, lending an eerie, whimsical charm. Floating lanterns bob gently in the air.

The studio says hello.

More lore snippets live on the community page, should you wish to wander further.

✦ Looking Ahead

February forecast:

  • Questions we’re holding close:

    • How can we connect more meaningfully with our community?

    • How can we offer the cozy, alternative, open space we envision?

  • On the horizon:

    • Artist Trading Cards may be making an appearance sooner rather than later, and we’re very excited about the possibility.

    • Our own menagerie will also begin appearing across our socials:

      • 2 Great Danes, 4 cats, and 1 tortoise.

✦ Closing Note

Thank you for being here. We know we’re a bit odd, but it means a great deal that you spent time with us.

With all the turbulence this season brings, we hope February holds you gently.

All are welcome in the Oddbrush community, and we’d love for you to visit our community page.

Until next month,

The Skip Sketch Studio Team💜✨
